It depends: You have Type II diabetes. Metformin will help correct your blood sugar, and some people do need to be on it for life. In many cases, Type II Diabetes is caused by being overweight, or poor diet and lack of exercise, which causes insulin resistance. Improving your diet and losing weight if you are overweight will help a lot. Hope this helps!

Not Necessarily: The issue is why do you have high blood sugar. At 25 years old you could make lifestyle changes that can help to lower your blood sugar and potentially reduce you need for Metformin. Talk with your doctor or endocrinologist about working with a dietitian to help you.
