A member asked:

Can u take cefuroxime if allergic to penicillin?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: I have been using Ceftin (cefuroxime axetil) in penicillin allergic patients for years without any problem. You can safely take ceftin. Other antibiotics that can be used are the fluoroquinolones such as Ciprofloxacin or levaquin (levofloxacin). The latter is more expensive but has a very low rate of bacterial resistance.
