A member asked:

I am allergic to penicillin and i have been prescribed 250 mg of cefuroxime axetil can i take it?

Possibly: Approximately 16% of individuals with true penicillin allergies will have a cross reactivity with cephalosporin antibiotics, like Cefuroxime axetil. Best to discuss with your prescribing doctor whether or not he or she believes you have a true allergy to penicillin vs. A side effect reaction to penicillin.

Cross sensitivity: Officially 10% of penicillin allergic people are also allergic to cephalosporins. Check back with prescribing physician to verify use.
