A good pain program: Referral centers (large, usually academic teaching hospitals) generally have comprehensive pain programs that include anesthesiologists, but also pain psychologists, physiatrists (physical medicine doctors), psychiatrists, social workers, counselors and even addiction specialists (sometimes), who can help you come up with a program that helps, that doesn't have to include opioids.
