dr put me on ciprofloxacin for kidney pain im scared to take it due to the side effects im a diabetic its alot of side effects. what can i take nstead?

Ciprofloxacin: The side-effect profile of cipro (ciprofloxacin) or the other fluorinated quinolones should not prevent you from taking it therapeutically. The benefits usually far outweigh the risks. Any medication will have an extensive list of possible side-effects attached, but that does not necessarily mean that they occur frequently. No idea what you can take alternatively since do not know what is causing the UTI.

Risks vs benefits: Risks of untreated kidney infection include kidney damage & sepsis (blood infection,intensive care sometimes needed). Main risk w Cipro (ciprofloxacin) for diabetics is low blood glucose (BG). Be alert for symptoms of low BG (anxiety, fast heart rate, cold sweats),monitor your BG, & let your doc know if low (
