A member asked:

My xray shows mild periostitis along gluteal tuberosity. is this a sign of cancer? is this what is causing pain? i was diagnosed with fibromyalgia.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not a sign of cancer: Periostitis is just an inflammation of the outer lining of the bone. This could be due to just about anything although it is commonly associated with trauma, overuse or infection. Cancer usually produces much more overt signs and symptoms. Fibromyalgia does not produce periostitis.
