Will amoxcillin or augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) will help me if have sinusitis or upper respiratory infection?

Likely viral: Almost all upper respiratory infections and sinus infections are caused by viruses antibiotics do not help these illnesses. Antibiotic should not be routinely prescribed. You should focus on symptomatic treatment using medications like Afrin, (oxymetazoline) cough medicine, and decongestants.

Only if bacterial: These antibiotics will help only if the cause is bacterial and not viral Your Health care provider will make this decision.

The vast: majority of Upper respiratory infections are viral and therefore Augmentin nor Amoxicillin will help. Time is the best cure and remember you may have symptoms for a week or more. Usually no more than Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin is needed but certain other 0ver-the-counter cough/cold medicines. Antibiotics should be reserved for complicated/ severe cases.
