Depends: Children with ADHD usually have no problem focusing on the things they like (video games, for instance). However, having tantrums, although it can be seen with ADHD, is not a symptom of ADHD. There are many reliable questionnaires online which can suggest that a child has ADHD, such as on www.healthychildren.org. For more information, visit your pediatrician.

Now: He is too old for temper tantrums. Have him assessed for behavior and ADHD. Hopefully there is a good resource in your community or through the school. All the best.

Tantrums at 10: I think you are right to wonder about 10 year old tantrums in your son. That is a bit old for that kind of behavior. Please request a pediatric behavioral specialist for help. Hopefully, this is a transient phase for him.

ADHD- Primarily: Inattentive Type can cause " hyper-focus" on video games. Neurotypical 4th-5th graders sustain attention to mildly-moderately interesting information or tasks, i. e., school or homework for ~ 30 minutes. His pediatrician can provide parent & teacher ADHD questionnaires. Negative or positive attention reinforces tantrums. See a child psychologist to learn effective behavior management techniques

Speak to pediatricia: Not all inattentive behavior is ADHD. Speak to your pediatrician and your child's teachers to get a sense of what they see
