A member asked:

Is it the standard practice not to administer vitamin k 1 mg by iv in a nil by mouth pt if an im or s/c route is available owing to the risk of anaphylasis especially if there is no emergency or anticoagulent use?

Oral always safer: Not sure I correctly understand, esp. "a nil" IM &/or SQ routes of any agent nearly always have highest incidence of anaphylaxis response because response in not just chemical/immunological but also powerfully emotional. Oral, less so IV routes, typically have lower anaphylaxis event rates. The Immune system is an extension of autonomic system yet control too complex for current understanding.
