Check ferritin level: Is the MCV 70? IF so, that would suggest a blood disorder-thalassemia or hemoglobin E. Because the hemoglobin is normal, or almost so, this suggests the disorder would be in "trait" or heterozygous form, with little or no symptoms or consequences. However, it would be common to have iron prescribed, mistaking this for iron deficiency, and people can then develop too much iron in their body.
