Outgrowing the dose : is possible, if he's had a rapid growth spurt in puberty. Stimulant doses are not based on mg/kg of body wt., but the maximum amphetamine dose is 1 mg/kg/day up to the adult max of 40 mg./day. Ask his prescriber for Vanderbilt ADHD questionnaires for parent & teacher updates. Look for environmental stresses at home & school. If family history is + for mood disorders, that could present in puberty.

New diagnosis: Some children with ADHD will develop a mood disorder (depression), or frustration if they are having difficulty with academics. You should discuss this with the doctor who is prescribing the Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine).
