A member asked:

Can the er test someone for inner ear disorders if they are having vertigo?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Vertigo in the ED: The emergency department can provide treatments to relieve symptoms of vertigo, and to evaluate if it is in the category of a peripheral cause (inner ear) versus a central cause (brain). In most cases, specialized evaluation of the inner ear to determine the specific structural cause is not necessary. For severe or persistent cases, evaluation in the Otolaryngology (ENT) office may be needed.
