Everything is: When you include things both in and out of awareness, everything has a 'psychological' component. That said, we can expand our awareness - meditation is all about that. Good breathing patterns are like good posture. Most of us can improve in this. Avoid shallow breaths. Aim at FULL (blow out) exhales. That will make deep inhaling natural. From time to time, do it intentionally until it's a habit.

Amazingly yes: It's incredible what significant stress/anxiety can make you feel, and shortness of breath is possible!

Can be psychological: Often when a person is experiencing anxiety they will feel like they can't get a deep breath. They find themselves taking a long deep inhalation, i.e. sighing. Sometimes the person feels like there is a heaviness or weight on their chest: Like the weight of the world is on their chest. Deep breathing relaxes the mind via the autonomic nervous system = An example of the Body-Mind connection.
