Lining of cavities: Mesothelium is the lining of body cavities: lung, heart, abdominal cavity, scrotum, etc. So, wherever there is a cavity, it is usually lined by this thin layer of tissue. It allows for smooth movement of objects (like the lung within the pleural cavity). It can become inflamed or develop into a tumor (mesothelioma).
