Neuropsychologist: Encephalitis is irritation and swelling (inflammation) of the brain, most often due to infections. Consider history as concussions and drug use can cause the same symptoms. A neuropsychologist is trained to assess function and determine whether there have been changes in function and if so in what areas of the brain. This assessment can be helpful when an MRI is normal.
