A member asked:

Is it truly safe to use boric acid suppositories for recurrent bv/yeast? could they cause damage to the body or reproductive organs?

Maybe: This treatment has been around a very long time and I have never heard of anyone getting into trouble with it. It definitely seems to work in some circumstances, but I consider it a treatment of last resort that I have not needed to use. To me it is comparable to douching, which is nearly always a bad idea. There are also unresolved issues of standardization, dosage, and purity.

Safe, helps prevent: Recent research has shown vaginal boric acid capsues to usually be effective in preventing recurrent BV or yeast. However, it is not recommended (or likely to be effective) in treating an active infection. It is considered harmless.
