Preference.: The otc ones are all about the same. The otc creams and tablets can some times cause local irritation and burning (but they also can relieve symptoms about a day or so sooner than the prescription tablet diflucan). Diflucan (fluconazole) is more convenient to take, but can cause GI symptoms like stomach upset - and doesn't work any significantly better than the otc meds.
