Inflammation&repair: In response to an injury the body mounts an inflammatory response followed by the influx of fibroblasts which use the inflammation as a scaffold for repair of the wound. It is a complicated humoral and cellular process which takes place, but ultimately results in healing and scar formation. Thank goodness your body does this automatically. Near miracle: Wounds that are deep fill in from the base with granulation tissue while the skin contracts and covers the granualtion tissue in an attempt to reestablish continuity. In larger wounds, there is a deposition of connective tissue/scar that closes the gap.
