Patellar tendinitis: Patellar tendon attaches patella (kneecap) to your shin bone (tibia). Sounds like you're describing patellar tendinitis- swelling & irritation of tendon. Often due to overuse - too much activity without enough rest, change in training regimen, technique issues, issues with footwear. If quad is tight/injured, can change your form - stress the tendon. Try ice, rest, NSAIDs, patellar cross straps.
