Tonsil stone: If you are feeling well and have no sore throat, this is often just a collection of postnasal drainage. They typically will be cleared with gargling but can be left alone.

Likely food: There are small crypts (little holes) in your tonsils and sometimes food will get trapped in them. They typically don't cause pain. Gargling with salt water may help dislodge it.

Tonsilitis hurts: If you don't have a sore throat, you don't have tonsilitis. A painless white spot is likely a tonsolith. This is a collection of debris trapped by the tonsil that is kind of like a mushy pebble and usually has a very bad odor. Gargling 2-3 times a day with mouthwash mixed with hydrogen peroxide can reduce these.
