Bladder cancer: The number of recurrences and number of tumors do not determine whether the cancer will progress beyond Stage 1. It is the grade and stage of the tumors which will be the predictor. High grade tumors recur and can progress into muscle invasive tumors eventually involving the muscle. 70% of low grade superficial tumors can recur but will not advance as far as the stage.
