It depends: It depends on what is causing the chronic pancreatitis -- if there is something structurally wrong, it needs to be addressed with surgery. Best is to discuss options with his doctor. I hope he feels better soon!

Chronic pancreatitis: A trial of pancreatic ensymes might be helpful. Avoidance of alcohol is also necessary Caffeine should be limited but fliuds dhould be encouraged. Blood sugsrs should be monitored and medication should be given. If these steps fail, then surgery may be indicated
