Dr. Thomas Deberardino answered

Specializes in Orthopedic Surgery

Inpatient x 1-2 days: Most hip replacements are still done as inpatient surgery that allows for early/immediate postoperative rehabilitation to allow the more healthy surgical patient get up and move and even perform early assisted ambulation to help alleviate or decrease the risk of postoperative complications (clots, respiratory issues, etc.) A follow-on rehabilitation facility can provide therapy before going home.
