A 37-year-old member asked:

If my teeth are straight and all gaps are closed between them, why do i have to keep my braces?

Just: Just because teeth look "straight" to your untrained eye doesn't mean that they are. Your Orthodontist is fine tuning the tip and torque of the roots for improved stability, the fit and finish of the crowns to enhance esthetics and function, and so many other things. Ask your Orthodontic Specialist to explain your ongoing treatment plan.

Depends: Depends on the cause of the spaces. Spaces between teeth can be caused by severe gum disease, pathology or unerupted teeth. Once these issues are addressed (if present) then you can consider braces. See a dentist.

What?: I'm not sure what you are asking. Braces can close gaps between teeth if that is what you wanted to know.

Less than ideal: If you completed orthodontic treatment ; are not satisfied with your result you should start by discussing this with the orthodontist who treated you. We have no way of evaluating the quality of care, the extent of your cooperation, and either the beginning or final occlusion attained. If unhappy with the dentist or explanation after that, consult with another orthodontist who is highly regarded.

You might..: In the process of straightening your teeth, spaces are sometimes created as all the teeth move into their proper positions... Don't fret, in the end your smile will be perfect.

When your teeth are straight do you get your braces off?

Essentially: The orthodontist will assure your teeth are straight and properly aligned for biting, chewing etc. Once all appropriate alignment is obtained, including straightness, then your braces can come off. Ask your dr. When yours will be ready to come off. Best wishes.
