A member asked:

My father has a loop colostomy, and is hoping to reverse it. how difficult is the reversal procedure?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Simple: The loop is performed proximal to an anastomosis to allow it to heal. At the time of closure the proximal and distal parts of the opened loop are divided and at skin level the margins are anastomosed and then droped back into the now open loop site which is then closed at fascial and skin levels.
