A member asked:

How likely is it to get hiv by cutting your hand on a shelf at the grocery store? thanks!

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Very Unlikely: HIV does not survive outside of the body well. In addition some one with HIV would have had to have cut themselves on that exact same spot. So to catch HIV from that type of injury, someone with HIV would have to cut themselves on the shelf and while the blood was still fresh you would have to cut yourself and get their blood into your blood. Bottom line- you didn't get HIV from the shelf.
