How long to use fish oil?

Fish Oil: Studies have shown that moderate consumption of fish oil can reduce heart disease risk. This is less than 250 mg/day. Consuming more than that, may not offer additional value.

It depends: on why you are taking/using fish oil. If you have very high triglycerides(>1000), then you may need to take this for the rest of your life or at least until you can undertake interventions that will keep the levels tolerable without fish oil. If you are taking it as a well-being supplement, then it is up to you.
