A member asked:

What causes cirrhotic patients to develop edema in their legs?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Gravity: Fluid can leak at a faster rate when pumped at a higher pressure. The cirrhotic liver's blood vessels are destroyed as is the liver itself. Blood through the liver is severely limited. Partial blocked water hose outlet & the water leaves at a higher pressure. All the water in the hose is now at a higher pressure. Blood flow before the liver is at a higher pressure, fluid leaks out more & falls.
