Stress of pain: Chronic pain is really difficult to deal with. As with most people, you have developed a set of behaviors to deal with the stress of it, & smoking is in that chain of responses. It is very common to choose immediate relief of the psychic stress over the longer-term better health choice. Keep working on quitting completely, especially focusing on substituting another behavior when under stress:)
