Multiple...: Thyroid cancer can have a number of risk factors. Most notably are a family history of thyroid cancer in a first degree relative, like a mother, father or silbing, but also a history of radiation to the head and neck region.

Not many: Radiation to the neck for benign disease- which was common 50+ years ago, rare nowadays. Sometimes runs in families or part of rare familial syndromes (men) associated with nuclear disasters (chernobyl).. Most patients have no known risk factors.
