Depends...: It all depends on how you were instructed to do so.If your outbreaks are only occasional and you are referring to the oral herpes( or commonly known as cold sores) then you can take when you get symptoms. However, if you are getting them too often and your doctor prescribed it for prevention then take it every day.If that is the case you might need a higher dose when you get sores appearing again.
