Not to pop: assuming it is indeed herpes simplex fever blister. 1) it is small, near surface, viral, short duration 2) virus is not very likely to spread or cause other sites of infection BUT. getting realy fresh exudate and spreading it in open wound or eye is one way to cause the worst outcome and if let alone the virus dies out by the time the blister pops on its own (don't get it in your eye in any case).
