A member asked:

I am 35 have diabetes for 5 yrs. is it ok if i only take insulin but no oral medicine to control blood sugar? now i take tresiba 30 units at bedtime.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes, OK insulin only: Hi. Yes, you can certainly use insulin only to control your diabetes. Pills are absolutely not required. However, Tresiba only provides "basal" insulin, and doesn't cover meal insulin needs at all. I would advise adding a meal insulin to cover meals along with using the Tresiba to achieve lasting tight control. Test BG frequently and be aware of low blood sugar risk. Good luck!
