Ankle Sprains Linger: A lingering ankle sprain may be a sign of a bigger problem. This can range from a torn tendon, ruptured and now insufficient ankle ligament, or cartilage damage form the ankle joint surface. A clinical exam, xray, and possible an MRI might be needed.

Sprained ankle: A sprain is a stretched or injured ligament. Ligaments (attach bones to bones) and Tendons (attach muscle to bone) are made of dense, fibrous tissue that has a poor blood supply. An ankle brace can help with stability at work. The ligaments could have been badly stretched, or even torn. If not better within several months, go to your Podiatrist for further evaluation, and an MRI might help
