Need exam: The pop may indicate a tendon or ligament tear or a further break. Need to be seen asap. Use ice, elevation and a compression wrap until seen.

You need to : Follow up with yor doctor, as he has the xrays and can perform a clinical exam. In the meantime, apply ice, try and stay off the foot, keep it elevated.

Have it evaluated.: Popping may indicate a ligament or tendon injury. An MRI may be of benefit in diagnosing your pathology. Discuss you option with your doctor. There are conservative and surgical options available.
