Check your insurance: You need to check your individual policy to see what bariatric surgery is covered, What type of surgery, what amount is covered. There are also conditions that have to be met for certain insurance companies to pay for bariatric surgery. Start with a consult with a bariatric surgeon to discuss the different options and then contact your insurance company.

WLS Coverage: Insurance will generally cover bariatric surgery as long as you play by their rules before the operation - your weight loss surgeon will explain what I mean by that in your initial consultation. That being said, doubtful they'd cover it if you have uncorrected hypothyroidism as that could technically be the cause of your obesity.
