How can a dr tell if you have calcium crystals in your ear for vertigo?

Otoliths are normal: The tiny calcium crystals in the inner ear are called otoliths. They sit in a small pouch called a utricle or saccule and move in the fluid inside the ear when you move, sending a message via "hair cells" to the vestibular nerve that helps you sense where you are. When otoliths get stuck or slip out of the pouch, the nerve gets the wrong message and you feel dizzy.

History and Physical: A thorough history and physical exam will tell the doctor if you have vertigo. The dizziness is caused by dislodged calcium crystals in the fluid of the inner ear during head movement. Treatment may include: From a sitting position, doctor may turn your head 45 degrees to the opposite side and lay the affected side down, then perform this in the opposite direction and repeat this three times.
