Seek referral to a : pediatric neurologist & obtain a developmental assessment to know benefits vs. risks of Phenobarbital, as it can cause behavior & learning problems. Recurrence of Febrile Seizures in 50% of tots who have their 1st at < 12 mos. & abnormal EEG's in 49% don't predict epilepsy. Having Developmental Delays &/or Cerebral Palsy prior to 1st febrile seizure increases risk of epilepsy from 2.9% to 40%.
