Misalignment: Depending in the break you can have a misalignment of the ankle due to possible stretching or tearing of the ligaments. You can also have cartilage damage. You should see a podiatric ankle specialist for a thorough evaluation.

Not uncommon: Depending on the severity and location of the break(s) in and around the ankle, chronic problems can occur. Many times physical therapy along with good shoes and supports can help. Have an evaluation performed and discuss treatment options. Dr l.

Common: Ankle fractures can result in hedonic ankle pain from damage to the ankle joint. This can vary depending on the exact mechanism that resulted in your fracture and the fracture type itself. See a specialist for this to determine your options.
