Any trauma?: Hi. In the absence of trauma to the area, I'd say it's probably costochondritis, an arthritis affecting the joints between ribs and the breastbone (sternum). There's no specific test for it, but it responds well to NSAIDs (ibuprofen, naproxen, etc). If NSAIDs don't help, see your doc. Good luck!
