Pilonidal cyst: We typically don't recommend patients drain abscesses (pus pockets) by themselves. Loculations (side pockets) can remain which need to be opened & drained as well. Of course, abscesses do drain spontaneously on their own but if it's that painful, go see your family doc who can safely perform procedure or refer you to surgeon who can do so. You may need wick/packing left in place to allow healing.
