A member asked:

When is the best time of day to take a ppi like nexium (esomeprazole)? how long does it take before their effect wears off after taking one? thanks

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Dropping That Acid: In general it's advised to take at 'bedtime'because gastric acid secretion is higher between 10pm and 2am in most people. If you are taking a delayed release(DR)PPI then taking it sooner might be better.Everyone is different and so are the drugs; you'll have to find out for yourself your best dose and times. For some twice a day is better Wear-off time is longer for the DR,for the other about a day
