What could cause upper back pain between the shoulder blades after first rib resection surgery? muscular or nerve related?

Possibly both: After a resection surgery you can have scar tissue that develops and pulls on the fascia and musculature disrupting either muscle function or nerves as the brachial plexus is right through this area. If it is between your shoulder blades, you may be looking at a long thoracic nerve issue or rhomboid dysfunction. A trial of PT would help delineate. Best of luck!
