Foliate papillae that is on the side of the tongue. i have one that is dark redish black pretty far back on one side. did not bite it or change diet. ?

See a dentist: Depending on your age and lifestyle (smoking, drinking), lesions on the lateral border of the tongue can be quite concerning. Especially if they are different in color and towards the back more than the front. I would see a dentist or oral surgeon when possible to rule out any type of "bad" growth.

Tricky to say: wihtout seeing it, it's pretty tricky. One of the pappilae being different from the others is a bit unusual. Discoloration of the tongue from food or post-nasal drip isn't that unusual. Tumor, small burn or food reaction....
