HIV: It is conceivable that one might test negative by PCR at a very early stage of acute HIV infection, although that is not a likely occurrence. The follow-up with a DUO test which measures p24 antigen and antibody to HIV in 28 days seems unnecessary, and repeating the PCR might be more appropriate, although far more expensive.
