A member asked:

I've been on 100 mcg levothyroxine for 12 years and i want to stop cold turkey. will i lapse into a coma? what's the worst that can happen and when?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Why: If you really have a poorly functioning thyroid gland, the med just provides something your body cannot make. If stopped, you would gradually become hypothyroid, slowing of your metabolism, weight gain, changes in heart rate, temperature sensitivity, stooling pattern, etc would be gradual. You would realize you need the med in time to reverse the change.
