A member asked:

Is a yolk sac visible with molar pregnancy? is it able to be diagnosed at 5.5 weeks via ultrasound - gest/yolk sac visible. hcg 22,000 - worried molar

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Possible: There are basically two types of molar pregnancy - partial and complete. Partial mole may be associated with the presence of a fetus and fetal heart beat may be detected. The hcg is lower in partial mole. Fetal death is high and it is usually misdiagnosed for a failed pregnancy or miscarriage. A partial mole is more difficult to diagnosed and serial ultrasound may be needed to make the diagnosis.
