Got pains in top of chest had xray all clear dr says acid reflux would,a xray see anything like a mass in my oesophogus thanks dr?

It could: A barium swallow xray or endoscopy is better. If your symptoms are not improved by antacids or PPI's like Nexium (esomeprazole) or Pepcid, please ask to see a gastroenterology specialist. Do you have risk factors like smoking or family history of heart disease? If antacids don't relieve the pain, ask to be seen by a cardiologist.

Maybe: If mass big enough, can see on x-ray, but would have to be pretty big or so big it is moving things out of their normal position. OK to try medicine/treatment for acid reflux, but if no better in 2-3 weeks, would have to rethink that diagnosis and consider additional testing. Hope this helps. Best of luck Dr R

No: The only way to visualize a mass in the stomach, stomach cancer is thorugh direct visualizaiton with en endoscope. New Onset Reflux, gastritis, etc... in someone over the age of 40 would warrent an EGD.

Maybe: Like with all masses, the problem with Xray is that some lesions are opaque/visible, and others are not. That being said- acid reflux is definitely a common etiologies, especially if you're having pain in relation to / after eating food. Esophageal masses can present with; difficulty swallowing your food, sometimes bleeding, sometimes weight loss. Diagnostic test if real concern is endoscopy.
