Several causes: There are several causes for the upper arm to ache near the shoulder. The most common are a tendonitis or a bursitis. Both of these can be treated with ice, rest and gentle stretching. Seeing a physical therapist can help with a more rapid recovery and decreasing the pain. If condition is worsening or is severe then see your doctor as soon as possible.
