Shoulder trouble: Shoulder trouble can be tricky to evaluate. It is a surprisingly complex joint. You should see your doc for a thorough examination, which will likely include x-rays and/or an MRI scan. They may wish to refer you to an orthopedist who specializes in shoulders. Agree- rotator cuff tendonitis, impingement, osteolysis are most common. See a shoulder surgeon.

Strain: Sounds like you have a strain potentially of your rotator cuff or maybe your deltoid or biceps. You may remember doing something with your shoulder in the last few days. Treatment is continued mild activity to maintain range of motion in your shoulder. Avoidance of strenuous activity and non steroidal anti inflammtory medications in adequate doses for about 10 days.
